Sunset in Morecambe, November 2021

There were numerous celebratory strands to my 40th birthday, one of which was a stay at The Midland Hotel in Morecambe. Of all the places I’ve been in England, Morecambe is, for me, the place with the most breathtaking sunsets.

The sky mixes a million shades of orange and pink. The manner in which the colours swirl around the mountains in the distance is utterly spellbinding.

The reflections in the low tide waters also create mesmerising motifs that are quite unique to the seascapes here. I daresay there are places in Scotland, Ireland and Wales you could visit that have twilights just as enchanting. But as far as sunsets in England go, Morecambe will always be the pinnacle as far as I’m concerned.

The colour contrasts are nigh on kaleidoscopic.

It seems like some kind of strange sorcery for a sky to somehow get darker and pinker all at once.

I wouldn’t even say this was the most spectacular sunset I’ve witnessed at Morecambe Bay but that made it no less captivating while it was happening.
